In general, we recommend that our patients get their teeth cleanings at least every 6 months. This gives us the opportunity to remove plaque and tartar. Our dentist will also be able to detect any issues with your oral health before they're able to worsen.

Preventive dental care will help you maintain a healthy smile for life.

Here's what you need to know about teeth cleanings at Bowtie Dental.

What to Expect

First, one of our hygienists will examine the inside of your mouth. If they find anything that needs immediate attention, they'll flag down our dentist. Otherwise, they'll continue with the teeth cleaning appointment.

Depending on how long it's been, we may need to take new dental X-rays. This allows us to look beneath the surface of your smile for any underlying issues.

Next, we'll remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. The hygienist will use a special dental tool called a scaler to gently scrape away any buildup. They'll then use a high-powered toothbrush to polish your teeth. We offer a range of tooth polish flavors (like mint) to make your experience more comfortable.

Once we've polished your teeth, the hygienist will floss. This is so they can remove any trapped plaque or food particles caught between teeth.

As a final step, we'll have you rinse away any residual debris and have you wait for our dentist.

Dr. Langellier will take a look inside your mouth and examine any X-rays. If he detects any issues, he’ll help you understand your treatment options.

This is also a great opportunity to ask Dr. Langellier any questions you may have about your oral health. He’d be more than happy to help!

Painless, Comfortable Dentistry

Your dental cleaning should be painless as long as you practice good oral hygiene at home. Otherwise, you may experience some discomfort or sensitivity.

In these situations, we may use a topical anesthetic to help you remain comfortable. We'll also give you oral hygiene tips to help you maintain a healthier smile between visits.
